Here At The Meeting Place,
If you're reading this, you probably already have an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you think he was a myth. Maybe you think he was a prophet, or a great teacher. Maybe you aren't entirely sure. Here at TMP, we believe Jesus is real, that he is the Son of God, and that he changed the world. We believe it because he changed us.
We believe that Jesus came to earth to make the way for us back to God through his death on a cross and his return to life three days later.
When Jesus was on earth, he loved to tell stories about everyday situations as a way to explain spiritual truth. Stories like this:
“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ " - Luke 15:4-6 (NLT)
And this one:
"Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ " - Luke 15:8-9 (NLT)
Here's the thing, though. We're only willing to spend time and effort searching for something that's lost if it has value to us. Jesus told these stories to illustrate how willing God is to go and search for us because he loves and values us far beyond anything we could ever imagine, no matter who we are, or what we've done.
